Blankets, buntings and such

Left to right:

  • Exquisite satin crib or pram coverlet. Shown here, it is folded over, showing the beautiful trapunto embroidery (scan doesn't do justice). Under the fold is a little pocket maybe for baby's calling cards or a hankie. This piece is in excellent condition, the old satin having the soft touch of long years and loving care. #LIN1 $45.
  • Cute as can be comforter of quilted satin appliqued with darling lambs and chicks. (Note: This was made with little bells around each lamb's neck, a cute detail but one you may care to remove before leaving it for any time with a curious toddler.) Great condition, satin sturdy but so soft. #LIN2 $47.50.
  • Sweet, unusual blanket, called a pram blanket. Wonderful old woolen worn soft, trimmed in pretty old satin, colors in reverse on the back. The lappets at the top have old ribbons attached, just not sure the function. Very fine condition. #LIN3 $49

  • Fine old silk comforter with beautiful hand embroidery (see detail at center above). This piece is quite old, quite fragile, but it would be beautiful as decor in a vintage nursery or bedroom. #LIN4 $65.
  • A classic baby bunting of time-softened quilting and satin trim. For some reason, this photo makes it look pink, but it is more of an ivory. #LIN5 $39.
  • ALSO AVAILABLE: Order a new, handmade and embroidered bunting to your specifications. Inquire at demoisellemail.com.

  • Four precious crib items(clockwise from left): Blue plisse pillow case and matching lap coverlet, trimmed with old French lace and soft pink satin ribbons. #LIN6 The set: $29; Sweet baby blue pillow case embroidered with a little bird. #LIN7 $15; A pair of blanket clips, a staple in both nursery and pram during the earlier half of last century. #LIN8 The pair: $15.
  • Antique dotted Swiss pillow case trimmed in old French lace. (Note: The pillow case is beautiful old ivory, not blue; it merely looks blue because paper has been inserted so the piece will show up against a white background.) #LIN9 $22.

Baby books

The pastel colors of the baby book at left are so soft, the scan really doesn't do them justice. It is covered with pink moiré satin and hand-painted in ivory and mint green.

The illustrations (see the one at right) are so old-fashioned.. This baby book has a place for memories up to age 5. The only writing in the book are the names of the attending obstetrician and nurse (ivory or ecru Whiteout would work wonders).

#BB1, $25

This baby book is a wonderful pale blue moiré satin with hand-painted detailing (easier to see in the display on the previous page). Inside are adorable illustrations, typical of the time in which it was published (1955).

It appears to have been provided to new or expectant mothers by The Woman's Hospital in the State of New York. It has extensive advice covering everything from the onset of labor to nursery necessities to pediatric and child-rearing questions. There is no writing in the book.

#BB2, $25

From the '50s

Ah the'50s: Those years of Mamie Eisenhower and bridge club! Direct from that time come these ceramic bassinets, complete with windup music boxes. These either were planters sent to the new mother with some hard-to-kill houseplant or simply were dressing table containers. We have one with a blue color scheme, one with pink. #MBOX1 $18.50 each.
